Address and admission

Santuario del Miracolo Eucaristico, Corso Roma 1, 66034 Lanciano (CH), Italy. The church stands on Piazza Plebiscito in the historic centre. Admission is free; donations are welcome.

Opening hours

The shrine is open every day in the morning and in the afternoon and closes over lunchtime, as is usual in Italy. Exact times vary with the season and on feast days. Check them on the shrine's official website before you travel.

What to expect

You enter the church through the main portal. The relics stand raised behind the high altar, and a staircase at the side leads up to them. Access to the stairs is restricted during Mass. Allow 30 to 45 minutes, a little more if you also see the exhibition rooms on the history and the scientific studies.

Practical tips

For a relaxed visit:

  • Dress: shoulders and knees should be covered.
  • Photos: without flash only, and not during services.
  • Groups: book guided visits and Masses for pilgrim groups with the shrine in advance.
  • Parking: the centre is a limited-traffic zone. Use the car parks at the edge of the old town.
